How we collect, label, review, and correct public hantavirus monitoring information.

What This Page Covers

Hantavirus Online is an independent public information site. We aggregate public source material about hantavirus outbreaks, research, prevention guidance, and news signals. We are not a public health agency and do not provide medical advice, diagnosis, treatment, emergency response, or official surveillance.

Primary Source Categories

Official

Public Health Agencies

WHO Disease Outbreak News, CDC pages and surveillance material, ECDC disease pages, national health ministry bulletins, and state or local public health notices.

Research

Scientific Literature

PubMed-indexed papers, journal articles, institutional reports, and clinical or epidemiological studies that are publicly accessible or publicly summarized.

News Signals

Public Reporting

Credible news reporting, wire services, and named source organizations. News signals are labeled separately from confirmed official reporting when official confirmation is not available.

Signal Labels

Map and timeline entries separate local case signals, imported travel-related signals, official source entries, policy or screening updates, research context, and public news signals. A news signal is not treated as official surveillance unless the source itself is an official public health body or the report directly cites an official notice.

Review Process

Collection: Source records are collected from configured public source feeds, pages, datasets, and manually reviewed public reports.
Classification: Each record is labeled by source type, geography, event type, date, and relationship to known outbreaks.
Deduplication: Repeated reports about the same event are grouped so maps and timelines do not inflate signal counts.
Source Attribution: Public-facing entries include a source label and source URL when a URL is available.
Revision: Case counts, deaths, dates, and summaries can change when public sources update their reporting.

Known Limits

Public reports may lag behind local events or later be corrected by the original publisher.
Some public sources block automated checks, move URLs, require subscriptions, or publish regional-language updates that need human review.
Map locations may represent the reporting jurisdiction, exposure region, hospital region, travel route, or country centroid when precise location is unavailable.
Signal counts reflect public source monitoring activity, not official incidence or prevalence.

Corrections

Send corrections, source disputes, or removal requests through Contact. Include the page URL, source URL, and the specific claim that needs review. We review corrections against primary public sources and update public pages when a claim is unsupported, stale, mislabeled, or materially incomplete.

Commercial Data Products

AXIS may commercialize aggregated or de-identified monitoring products derived from public source metadata, trend summaries, and non-identifiable analytics. We do not sell individual newsletter email addresses, contact submissions, or identifiable visitor records as standalone data products.
